This Month of Flowers

Hydrangeas bloom during the rainy season in Japan, typically from June to July. Their appearance coincides with the moist, humid conditions, making them a symbol of the season. I love that hydrangeas change colors gradually from white to pure purple, and eventually fade. This transformation makes each day a bit more exciting and enjoyable to see in a garden every day. I find beauty in nature; every leaf, petal, and flower is so different from one another. Since I work in front of a computer surrounded by electronics, connecting with nature and finding it in everyday life are very important for my well-being.

Spring and summer bring an abundance of wildflowers, making me feel happy, peaceful, and joyful. Flowers are great accents to have in your room, at the entrance, or even a small one for the bathroom. I love summer because it’s the time for vacations! Being surrounded by nature and breathing good quality air makes me feel so happy. As I get older, I’ve started feeling more appreciative of life, especially when I’m closer to nature.

Hydrangea (Ajisai)

Pink Iris (Ayame, Shobu)

Rhododendron (Tsutsuji)

Bellflower (Kikyo)

Pink Lily (Yuri)

Peony (Botan)

I usually decide which flower I want to center in a vase. It's totally up to my mood that day. It can also be a creative way to express how I feel. This week, there were such gorgeous pink lilies, so I wanted to center them and add other flowers to the arrangement. I thought the light purple and white hydrangeas would go well with the big, bold irises, so I included them. Finally, I added some delicate irises.

There are different types of hydrangesa in our garden.
